My career background is Finance. I am currently working full time as a Special Projects Analyst for a credit union in Manitoba, Canada. I live in a small town in Manitoba, Canada. I am a mother of three daughters. I became a mother at 18 years old, and had to drop out of high school in order to care for my first child and support her and myself financially. Her father was constantly “in and out” of the picture, and I was left to basically raise her on my own. I had one more child with him (my middle daughter). During my pregnancy with her, the relationship became abusive and about a year after the birth of my second daughter, I finally got the courage to leave him. I began living on my own with the two girls in a small apartment, and worked three jobs just to support us. Child support wasn’t being paid.
Then, in 2011 I got a job as a teller at the credit union and have been there every since. I have had several different roles there and moved up through the “ranks” to get where I am today. The job I have didn’t allow for an outlet for my creativity, so that’s where I began blogging. The same year I started at the credit union, I met the love of my life, a police officer. We have one child together and have been happily married since 2015. Needless to say I have my happy ending and am beginning to live the life I have always dreamed of.
Motherhood to me, means giving your all to the souls you have created. Your mind, body and soul connects with them, and you have been given the incredible opportunity to raise this tiny human, and share them with the world.
Can you tell us about your blog, and what inspired you to start it?
My blog is a lifestyle blog, where I share my outfits, recipes, DIY projects, home décor, and adventures. My husband really encouraged me to start sharing the things I was making or the outfits I was wearing. He truly believes that I will do something incredible with this! He has really inspired me to be true to myself and share my creativity with the world.
The one fashion item I can’t live without is a pair of red flats. They go with so many outfits, and with being at work all day and running three kids here, there and everywhere, heels just aren’t practical. red flats go with almost anything and spice up a simple t shirt and jeans, make an all black outfit look classy, or just add a pop of contrasting colour.
Top three favorite items in my closet right now: my coral pants from old navy – the are so bright and cheery and go with so much! My striped ruffle sleeve top- ruffle sleeves and stripes are both so on trend right now! I love pairing it with embroidered denim for a chic look, but also goes well with shorts, gaucho pants, even skirts! my third favorite item is my white off the shoulder top. Keeps me nice and cool for the summer and is also very versatile. it can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion.
Who are your top three fashion designers in the world?
Top three fashion designers : Calvin Klein – his work has spanned across generations and his pieces appeal to a wide variety of ages, and are reasonably priced.
Betsey Johnson- her unique spin on everything under the sun is so happy, uplifting and inspiring all time favorite- KATE SPADE. Her whimsy and class is attracting women all over the world to her collections in home décor, fashion, and even office supplies. Everything in my home office is either Kate spade- or Kate spade inspired.
Olivia Palermo is my number one fashion inspiration. I love the way she re-works exquisite wardrobe pieces time and time again. And her style is classy, and easy to recreate for day-to-day outfits.
Favorite shopping brands- I am cheap. and with three children I can’t afford to buy all the kate spade stuff I want. My go to stores for affordable pieces are Dynamite Clothing, Suzy Shier and Forever 21. I can usually recreate high-end looks for under $100 per outfit.
Current fashion obsessions – fruit print anything! Pineapples are making a huge splash in the fashion world and you can find them on just about everything, including home décor. Floral print everything- dresses, skirts, etc. I love it all! So feminine and classy! Also, off the shoulder anything- I love showing a little shoulder day or night.
When putting an outfit together, my number one rule is to ask yourself “What is the vibe?” Wherever you’re going, what is the atmosphere? Are people relaxed and having a good time? Or is it a really important meeting and you want to make a good impression? Dress according to the “feel” of the event or location.
My personal style has definitely changed since becoming a mother. It is more conservative, and I gravitate towards pieces I can wear at work and on weekends. I don’t have a lot of “night out” clothing anymore. Work clothes can usually be paired with jeans or more casual clothes to still look put together on the weekends.
My favorite quote is “Your smile is the prettiest thing you can wear.” and I also believe it is the most important. as long as you are happy and love yourself first, the rest will follow.
I have been bowling since I was two years old and it is my favorite “sport” or activity to do with family and friends.
